Next-gen battery intelligence

Li-ion thermal runaway failure is a significant issue in EV battery packs. New regulations (GTR20) require advanced diagnostics for early detection of thermal runaway events. Existing technologies cannot reliably meet these regulations. So there is an urgent need for new approaches. To address this,  we are developing 'LiCANS' - an intelligent ultra-low power gas sensor chip, that can reliably detect and identify failing Li-ion cells in a battery pack. Stressed Li-ion cells are known to vent certain gases in trace quantities well before thermal runaway. Sensing these trace gases provides actionable intelligence to prevent thermal runaway. With LiCANS, we aim to drive the adoption of trace gas venting as a crucial yet often overlooked metric in the comprehensive monitoring of battery health.
